Learning Objectives for This Course

Upon completion of the Onramp to Inclusive Fitness Practices course, the student will be able to...

  1. Explain the relationships between connection and empathy and define their purpose in the role of the fitness professional.
  2. Identify and address accessibility issues in their practice. Including financial, communication, learning, safety, and other access related barriers to fitness.
  3. Increase their professional approachability in order to decrease the barriers to fitness that many people face.
  4. Design marketing materials which increase trainer approachability and decrease barriers to fitness.
  5. Market their business to strategically and empathetically attract individuals who currently do not feel welcome in fitness culture.
  6. Create non-manipulative sales processes which develop long-term clients.
  7. Cue exercise in ways which increase client success, client/trainer connection and client fitness confidence.
  8. Identify areas for professional growth as a body positive fitness professional.

Michele Burmaster

With a Bachelor's of Science in Education from the University of South Florida and 20 years of experience in the fitness industry, Michele’s life mission is to make fitness accessible to everyone. Through her own personal and professional experiences, she recognized the disordered practices and extremes in the fitness industry causing people more harm than good for their overall health. She devised the BPFA Eight Pillars to help guide trainers from all around the world in making their fitness practices accessible, approachable, fun communities that operate within their scope of practice and are focused on full mental, emotional and physical health. The mission incorporates body positive environments - free of judgments or assumptions.
